Why does the doctor ask me, “Which is better: one or two?”

While assessing your prescription, the physician will offer you a few series of lenses so that you can compare them and define which allows you to see better. Then, the doctor will give you a prescription. If you can't choose between those options, it means you’re almost done with this part of the exam!

Why is it necessary to know my blood pressure?

High blood pressure can affect your eyes' blood vessels, causing future vision problems.

Why am I asked to follow a light with my eyes?

This part of the examination will help your doctor to define the reaction of your pupils and eye muscles as well as to assess your neurological function.

Is it necessary for the doctor to dilate my pupils during the exam?

It is not always necessary to dilate pupils, it's up to your doctor to make this decision. You don't have to worry if this happens, this process is painless. By doing so, your physician will check your retina more thoroughly. Dilation can also assist in the detection of such diseases as diabetes, high blood pressure, and macular degeneration.
